Okay, add 2y to both sides: x - 2y = 14 x = 2y + 14 Substitute 2y + 14 into the 2nd equation for 'x' x + 3y = 9 2y + 14 + 3y = 9 Add: 5y + 14 = 9 Subtract 9 - 14
-5
