In the late spring and early summer in Northern Michigan, it's tempting to light up a fire. But before you do, there are a few key things to keep in mind. Fire danger is defined by levels; low, moderate, high, very high, and extreme. These all vary depending on the wind, rain, temperature, and humidity. In all areas, you need to have a permit if you plan having an open debris fire. That means burning things like yard waste and brush. When having a bonfire, they are not supposed to exceed 3 feet in height or diameter.
