This is difficult as the religion in he south at the time was mostly relaying the message that the whites were in fact superior to the blacks so that they could get higher attendance during their services. In the north, the religious groups were mostly Puritan, which was strictly anti-slavery.

But the economic differences also makes sense because of the difference in how the climate was in the south as opposed to the north. The norths climate did not support agriculture much, but the south was near perfect for it.

If I was to decide between the two, I would do religious.
