Why were groups such as the Federalists opposed to the War of 1812? It hurt U.S. trade, which was how many Federalists made their living. Federalists felt war would ruin any peace agreements they made with local tribes. Many Federalists believed that the British had not done anything wrong. They believed President Madison was using the war to guarantee his reelection.
