The dimensions in the floor plan pictured above are measured in feet. A builder has a roll of carpet 10 feet wide. What is the minimum number of feet of carpet from this roll required to completely carpet the area shown above? (Don't worry about the excess or particular cuts to make this fit.) Select one: 67 68 69 71 70
Dividing the floor space into rectangles to get the total square footage to be carpeted. Look at the diagram. What is the total area of the region to be carpeted? @unicornsandmarshmellows
675 square ft all together for the region on the floor
Okay.
Where would you go from there ? If there is only 10 ft of carpet that you have, that is.
We have an "endless" roll of carpet for this. The roll is 10 feet wide but rolls on with lots of carpet. The restriction is that the width is 10 feet wide. No restriction on how long the roll is.
Divide the floor area of 675 by roll width of 10 to get how how much of the roll will be needed.
67.5?
ohhh awesome !! :D Thanks man! :) Wait do you think that would be rounded down or up?
That would round up to 68 feet.
Awesome thanks man ! :)
The first time I did this I got 70 but that was not the minimum amount of carpet.
Yeah I know I got 69 when i went through it first :)
I think 68 is the minimum. If you round the 67.5 down to 67, then there will be a small region of the floor with no carpet.
>>Awesome thanks man ! :) You are welcome.
