The dimensions in the floor plan pictured above are measured in feet. A builder has a roll of carpet 10 feet wide. What is the minimum number of feet of carpet from this roll required to completely carpet the area shown above? (Don't worry about the excess or particular cuts to make this fit.)

We have an "endless" roll of carpet for this. The roll is 10 feet wide but rolls on with lots of carpet. The restriction is that the width is 10 feet wide. No restriction on how long the roll is.

The first time I did this I got 70 but that was not the minimum amount of carpet.

I think 68 is the minimum.

If you round the 67.5 down to 67, then there will be a small region of the floor with no carpet.
