For this assignment, you will analyze an everyday movement in terms of the body systems and functions involved. You may choose the scenario from the list below, or you may think of a different scenario that involves multiple body systems. I chose playing basketball. Your assignment should include: A written narrative that describes, in detail, the scenario you have chosen. This description should include the senses and movements involved to complete the activity. Paragraph form. A discussion of how each of the body’s systems is involved: The skeletal, muscular, & integumentary systems.

pooja195 (pooja195):

have you started this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@pooja195 No and unlike other people I'm not looking for just the answer, I'm looking for someone to help walk me through it :)

pooja195 (pooja195):

well done im more than glad to help :D also before we start: Hey there! Welcome to openstudy! consider reading the CoC: http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct Heres a link that will help you get to know the site better: http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/548c04e1e4b0f2fbdc23dd6c

pooja195 (pooja195):

Alright heres how we'll do it i want you to keep going until u get stuck i will guide you through :) start typing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, since it's a narrative I was thinking about starting it like this: "I dribble the ball and glance around for my teammates." Since that is using the senses touch and sight @pooja195

pooja195 (pooja195):

thats correct so far :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So maybe then I could say, "behind me, I hear the shouts of one of my teammates and spin around to find him." To use the sense of hearing. And maybe for the sense of smell, I could maybe add into the first sentence and say, "In the stinky gym, I dribbled the basketball and glanced around for teammates."

pooja195 (pooja195):

looks good :) keep going

pooja195 (pooja195):

touch can be used for dribbling the basketball

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is the part where I am stuck really. It says to include senses and movements & also how the body systems are involved. SO we have the senses down, what does it mean by movements exactly? So would I add running around and dribbling/passing the ball in the narrative for the movements?

pooja195 (pooja195):

yes running or possibly you dribbling the ball

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

:D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So far I have: "In the stinky high school gym, I dribble the basketball and glance around for teammates. Behind me, I hear the shouts of a teammate, so I spin around to find him. I dribbled and passed the ball to him. Suddenly, opponents are surrounding him and he passed the ball back to me. I dribble and start to run towards the hoop. I spring into mid air and dunk the basketball. " Lol I'm not too good at writing or basketball..haha

pooja195 (pooja195):

this is fine :) and LOL stinky school haha :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sweet, so, now we have to start on the 3 systems and how they're involved..this must be the very tricky part. All though you've made this easier for me so far

pooja195 (pooja195):

lol i didnt do anything your doing the work :D but go on your doing great!

pooja195 (pooja195):

what 3 systems?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The muscular, skeletal, and integumentary systems

pooja195 (pooja195):

ok your using the muscular system when doing what to the basket ball?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When dribbling or shooting, I would think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and passing

pooja195 (pooja195):

correct! now what about the other 2 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I wrote: "Many systems are involved in playing basketball. When you pass, dribble, or shoot the ball, you are using the muscular system. " Maybe I should add onto that...should I say how the muscles are used?

pooja195 (pooja195):

yes i want you to explain it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In my lesson it says: "As the name may suggest, skeletal muscles are usually attached to bones by tendons. They are responsible for voluntary movements such as winking an eye, waving a hand, or running." So maybe I could say that skeletal muscles are used when running, or possibly waving your hand to a teammate on where to go

pooja195 (pooja195):

yep that is totally fine to say :)

pooja195 (pooja195):

i want you to get your essay in one reply so i know what else u need :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like copy and paste what I have so far?

pooja195 (pooja195):

yep :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have: "In the stinky high school gym, I dribble the basketball and glance around for teammates. Behind me, I hear the shouts of a teammate, so I spin around to find him. I dribbled and passed the ball to him. Suddenly, opponents are surrounding him and he passed the ball back to me. I dribble and start to run towards the hoop. I spring into mid air and dunk the basketball. Everybody cheers and I jump up in victory, cheering along with them, astounded that I actually dunked the ball. Many systems are involved in playing basketball. When you pass, dribble, or shoot the ball, you are using the muscular system. As it says in the lesson, skeletal muscles are used when "for voluntary movements such as winking an eye, waving a hand, or running", so in this case, they're used for running and possibly for waving your hand on where your teammate should go. "

pooja195 (pooja195):

that looks great i think this is everything you need right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and the other two systems: the skeletal and the integumentary systems. I have no idea what the second system is

pooja195 (pooja195):

The integumentary system is the organ system that protects the body from various kinds of damage, such as loss of water or abrasion from outside. The system comprises the skin and its appendages (including hair, scales, feathers, hooves, and nails).

pooja195 (pooja195):

google

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so we can start with the skeletal then. Maybe I could add in something about the joints. In my lesson theres "freely movable joints" which are joints that allow movement in one or two more directions. They are in the knees, shoulders, and elbows. So maybe, when you bend your knees to shoot that could count? And I think you have to bend your elbows outwards

pooja195 (pooja195):

yes bending knees would count

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay and finally, the last system then we're done!

pooja195 (pooja195):

Yay! do you know what the skeleton system is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean the integumentary! So I Was thinking the skin helps regulate temperature, so while you're running around, all sweaty, dribbling the ball and such, the skins regulating the temperature? The glands release sweat, which also helps cool the body's temperature. I Was thinking about adding those in there for the last system :)

pooja195 (pooja195):

oops lol that is indeed correct looks good now put together your entire essay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is what I have for my essay! Tell me if there's anything i could improve: "In the stinky high school gym, I dribble the basketball and glance around for teammates. There's also the skeletal system; there are "freely movable joints", which allow movement in one or two more directions in the knees, elbows, and shoulders. In my scenario, bending the knees to shoot would count, and also you bend your elbows outward. The last system is the integumentary system. This involves the skin, which regulates the body's temperature, where in my scenario, could be very useful while running around dribbling the ball. The glands release sweat, which help cool the body down. "

pooja195 (pooja195):

This looks great!!!! Awesome job!!! im proud of u <3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you! I've been struggling over this for a few days!

pooja195 (pooja195):

ah! no need to struggle OS will always help you with the help you need :D

pooja195 (pooja195):

if u want u can always tag me or pm me :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, I do have a few more biology questions if you'd like to help :)

pooja195 (pooja195):

id be glad to help :) people like you make me happy im glad you were looking for help and not answers you even put forth alot of work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

awe thanks, yeah I feel good I actually did work! and one second, let me find the question

pooja195 (pooja195):

ok make sure you close this and post it again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll close this right now. I'll just PM you the question

pooja195 (pooja195):

post it just in case if i dont know it
