So to determine the pattern, we must do it by process of elimination X-linked? It can't be because the male in generation II (individual 3) is affected therefore must be autosomal. I can't find a way to rule out recessive nor dominant. :S

i can't really go any further without making large assumptions about the genotypes, i too didn't enjoy this because of the handwaviness in the answers. It's almost pointless to speculate on this without knowing (at least) the genotypes of the parents.
