What is the function of the green object in this representation of the lac operon? A- It bonds to lactose in order to permit lactase enzymes to be produced, which break down lactose in the environment. B- It serves as a repressor to prevent the production of lactase enzymes, which break down lactose in the environment. C- It helps regulate the production of lactase enzymes, which break down lactose in the environment. D- All of the above are correct.

OpenStudy (somy):

what do u think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A

OpenStudy (somy):

why so?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

blocking the RNA polymerase from transcribing the genes into mRNA. Lactose sugar in the cell environment attaches to the repressor protein, forcing the protein to change shape and disconnect from the operator on the operon. As a result, the lac operon is open to be transcribed into mRNA. The mRNA then proceeds through translation, or protein synthesis, to produce enzymes that digest lactose sugar.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its C

OpenStudy (somy):

nope read what you posted again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b because The mRNA then proceeds through translation, or protein synthesis, to produce enzymes

OpenStudy (somy):

bingo! but reason is that that green block is a repressor

OpenStudy (dan815):

you see that long pipe is that the axon?
