A stadium has 54 790 seats. What would you say is its maximum capacity. a) to the nearest thousand ? b) to the nearest hundred ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thansk a lot that u came

hartnn (hartnn):

sure :) do you know about rounding to nearest thousand or hundred?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kliedako Please do not give answers, it's against OpenStudy's Code-of-Conduct. We are here to guide the user to the answer, so we need his participation. http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i am getting confused it the oart where it says what is its maximum capacity

hartnn (hartnn):

so what will 54 790 when rounded to nearest thousand ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to round it, it would be 55 000

hartnn (hartnn):

ok, anything greater than 0.5 becomes 1 anything greater than 5 becomes 10 anything greater than 50 becomes 100 and so on

hartnn (hartnn):

and yes! 55000 is correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and what if the ques said what is its minimum capacity

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would the ans for a) would be the same

hartnn (hartnn):

nope! because the stadium will NOT be able to accommodate 55000 people, right ? so just use 54000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what i understood is that ans is a) 55 000 b) 54 800

hartnn (hartnn):

what are the 2 nearest hundreds of 790 ?

hartnn (hartnn):

remember, the stadium will not be able to accomodate 54800 people either!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no the ques says maximum capacity so the answer i told is correct

hartnn (hartnn):

don't you think the stadium will only be able to accommodate 54700 people?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok so the ans for the ques that is asked on the top is : a) 54 000 b) 54 700

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that correct?

hartnn (hartnn):

yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey now i know the ans. but for extra information may i know, what would be the ans if the ques said : What would you say is its minimum capacity, instead of : What would you say is its maximum capacity.

hartnn (hartnn):

minimum capacity is always 0... which means the stadium is empty ....so they'll never ask about min capacity :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, i am such a noob i never thought about that :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would be a because if you round to the nearest hundred the question wouldnt be finished and if you rounded to the nearest thousand well :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you get your answer much easier then nearest hundred

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its like rounding decimals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no the answer would be a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

aka 21

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think u are simply confusing me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its to the simplest form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i already got my ans

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dont confuse me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the answer to the question simplify everything until it cant be simplified any more

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i apologise if a am wrong
