When Odyseus was in the cyclop's cave, we was cocky and arrogant. He hurt the cyclops and told him his name was Nobody. When he was smart and used the sheep to escape, he got cocky and told the cyclops his name. The cyclops not only killed his men, but because he was a son of Poseidon "God of the Sea and Earthquakes" he had his father curse him. Which was why Odysseus was on a very hectic voyage. He missed his son grow, he was stranded on an island, and ship was destroyed by the end of the story.

His bravery and wits could not compensate for the arrogance and pride that costed him major pieces of his life. His son was a man when he came back, his mother was dead, and his entire crew were killed or lost in the sea.
