OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm pretty sure it's answer A. Even though they are big, horses are quite gentle animals. because "quite gentle" seems a bit vague, though I'm not certain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks, do you know anybody who would know for sure?

OpenStudy (superflytyguy):

B. We caught a large trout in the river and ate it for dinner.

OpenStudy (superflytyguy):

ATE is a past tense verb therefore your sentence is in passive voice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

passive doesn't mean past tense...

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

Yes, true. But notice how the three other answers include some detail to it. The feel to it seems to flow more as to throwing a big fish into the river- the end type of answer. If you were to write an essay about seeing wonderful creature wouldn't the second choice be a killjoy in the middle of describing the imagery?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it is B???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can anyone explain me why the answer is not D?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am just curious

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have NO idea^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

usually a passive sentence is determined by the word 'by' for example: the extra rice was eaten by a mice the verb 'was eaten' is the passive verb

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

@Data_LG2 "by" is not used in the sentences above. But I do see why it should be D. Good point.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes you are right about that. another hint so that you can determine whether it is a passive sentence: the verb phrase usually is composed of a linking verb plus a past participle verb.
