If the discriminant of a quadratic equation is 4, which statement describes the roots? -2 complex roots -2 real roots -1 real root -1 complex root PLEASE HELP

OpenStudy (freckles):

well is the sqrt(4) real or imaginary ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

real ?

OpenStudy (freckles):

yep assuming all real coefficients of the quadratic let D=discriminant If D=0 we have 1 real If D=positive we have 2 real If D=negative we have 2 complex

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be 2 real ??

OpenStudy (freckles):

yep but that is with the assumption your quadratic is only made up of real coefficients

thanks
