well, understatement is emphasis in expression. paradox is a statement that seems to contradict itself but but may nonetheless be true. Symbolism is when represents things, objects etc. and hyperbole is a figure of speech that exxagerates too much... I dont see how that goes with a f*cking river in a book that means life
