What is the correct classification for the triangle shown below?

|dw:1423526714699:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. cute, scalene B. acute, isosceles C. right, scalene D. obtuse, scalene

OpenStudy (kohai):

Ok. The way to figure out the first part is, all angles need to add up to 180 degrees. if it's acute, all of the angles will be less than 90 degrees. If it's obtuse, the missing angle will be over 90 degrees. If it's a right triangle, the missing angle will be 90 degrees exactly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so...

OpenStudy (kohai):

An Isosceles triangle has two angles that are the same and one angle that isn't. A Scalene triangle has no angles that are the same

OpenStudy (kohai):

So what is the missing angle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

90?

OpenStudy (kohai):

Yes. So what triangle will it be? Right, acute, or obtuse?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right?

OpenStudy (kohai):

Yes. And are any of the angles the same?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no.

OpenStudy (kohai):

Right, so it's a Right, Scalene triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx

OpenStudy (kohai):

You're welcome
