What is the heart's SPECIFIC function?

OpenStudy (nottim):

What do you mean.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like what is its specific job within the bod. I know it pumps blood and refills the blood with oxygen, but I need more details and other things it does.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@NotTim

OpenStudy (nottim):

To be honest, I can only tell you the very basics here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay thanks anyway

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

like what do you want to learn. Be specific

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I want to learn what all its functions are, they need to be detailed.

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

this is going to be FUn :D

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

do you know the chambers?

OpenStudy (nottim):

.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart Ventricles and all....superior vena cava.....inferior....maybe you want the steps of bloodflow through the organ?

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

wiki is not a good site, let me finish @NotTim

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

like i said do u know about the chambers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know the chambers. I just need to know exactky what all they do.

OpenStudy (nottim):

I think she wants the steps in which the blood flows through. That would assist her in defining the function of each part of the organ.

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

Chambers of the Heart The heart contains 4 chambers: the right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle, and left ventricle. The atria are smaller than the ventricles and have thinner, less muscular walls than the ventricles. The atria act as receiving chambers for blood, so they are connected to the veins that carry blood to the heart. The ventricles are the larger, stronger pumping chambers that send blood out of the heart. The ventricles are connected to the arteries that carry blood away from the heart. The chambers on the right side of the heart are smaller and have less myocardium in their heart wall when compared to the left side of the heart. This difference in size between the sides of the heart is related to their functions and the size of the 2 circulatory loops. The right side of the heart maintains pulmonary circulation to the nearby lungs while the left side of the heart pumps blood all the way to the extremities of the body in the systemic circulatory loop.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you.. where did you find that?

OpenStudy (nottim):

Lol.

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

try this website http://www.innerbody.com/image/card01.html and if u need more i can help you with it i love anatomy lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you. thats all for now.

jagr2713 (jagr2713):
