Why was Harlem considered the “supreme center for African American culture”

OpenStudy (love_ranaa):

From 1919 through 1939 an African-American cultural movement was born and became known as “The New Negro Movement,” later renamed “The Harlem Renaissance.” Harlem attracted a prosperous and stylish black middle class from which sprang an extraordinary artistic center. Like avant-garde movements in Europe, it embraced all art forms, including music, dance, film, theatre and cabaret. Harlem was the supreme center of African-American culture. *Never before had so many Americans read the thoughts of African-Americans and embraced the African-American community’s productions, expressions, and style* :)

OpenStudy (love_ranaa):

Yeah. You could just paraphrase it or just say: Never before had so many Americans read the thoughts of African-Americans and embraced the African-American’s productions, expressions, and style
