OpenStudy (albert0898):

1. Force F is applied to a spring causing it to stretch a distance x. If force 2F is applied to the spring and the elasticity of the spring is not exceeded, the spring will stretch a distance 1) x 2) 2x 3) x/2 4) x/4

OpenStudy (nottim):

Alright, what formulas do you know applies to this situation?

OpenStudy (albert0898):

F = kx I think

OpenStudy (nottim):

Alright, compare the unstretched spring to an unstretched spring. Do this, by applying the formula twice, but separately. do you understand?

OpenStudy (nottim):

F=kx (original), and 2F=kx (stretched). Solve for x, in both situations.

OpenStudy (albert0898):

F/k = x and 2F/k = x
