OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its not 85/56

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your welcs! Anytime! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope, it is 5/8. Positive. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok can you please explain how you got this answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I can! Okay so 5/8 as a decimal is .625. I know this because I dived 5 by 8. So you have 10.625 divided by 17. I used my calculator and found that 10.625 divided by 17 is .625. Now you just have to turn it back into a fraction, 5/8, and it is already in simplest form. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh i c i thought it was 85/8 * 1/17 = 85/56

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh lol. Well, there you go!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you cant put 85/56 into simplest form?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hold on, lemme check that for you...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can't without using decimals.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so when you divide fractions you cant multiply then two top numbers together then multiply the two bottom numbers together?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, when your dividing fractions, you change the division sign into a multiplication sign and then switch the numerator and denominator on the second fraction. Does that help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it does and when you switch them then after what do you do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Once you switch them, you just multiply and then you are done.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh and thanks for the medal!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your welcome :)
