they are different by one no gumption is about a boy who is forced to deliver newspapers for money to support his family and learn about hard work and barrio boy is about a immigrant moves to the U.S. in during the revolutionary war i believe and he needs to learn English, his family is poor as well as the economy. They are similar in that both boys must work hard as there families are poor in a poor economy. Also both have a end, the boy finds his job rather than delivering the papers he writes them and the other boy learns english thanks to his teacher.
