This is his whole work! http://www.globalchange.umich.edu/globalchange1/current/lectures/selection/selection.html the organisms with the better traits statistically survive at higher rates than those who lack those traits. therefore, The ones with the superior traits go on and breed with each other, shifting the gene pool to where there is more of that specific trait. Say you have a species of beetles, half the population is yellow colored, the other half is brown. There is a bird that has moved in the area that starts eating these beetles, and the yellow ones get eaten more b/c they get seen easier, therefore there are more brown beetles around to breed, causing a slight evolutionary change.
