Help me with this radical and square root problem. 10p^2 + 1 = -55 My teacher told me to get the square root alone then do a date and hotel the square root of the big number? I am not sure what date and hotel is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand the term "date and hotel". That might just be his teaching method. First thing though, you need to get the square root by itself, meaning subtract 1 from both sides so that you only have 10p^2 on one side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is p the variable?

OpenStudy (lilpeter504):

Yes, p is the variable. The method was to factor big numbers that can't be squared.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can always square big numbers :) but if your teacher is asking you to use a certain method, then I don't think OS can help you. You'd need to speak to your teacher to ask what he's talking about with the whole "date and hotel" thing

OpenStudy (lilpeter504):

Could you tell me another method of trying to square a big number instead of what the method I said?
