We can re-arrange the first equation:
3x + 6y = 3
Subtract 6y to both sides:
3x = -6y + 3
Divide 3 to both sides:
x = -2y + 1
Now we can plug in '-2y + 1' for 'x' in the 2nd equation:
5x - y = 27
5(-2y + 1) - y = 27
Distribute:
-10y + 5 - y = 27
Subtract:
-11y + 5 = 27
Subtract 5 to both sides, what's 27 - 5?

Y= -2
OpenStudy (love_ranaa):
x= 5
y= -2
