Finding the amplitude of a sine equation

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

\[f(\theta)=-2.86\sin(\theta)\]The amplitude is -2.86 or would it be positive 2.86?

OpenStudy (kropot72):

\[f(\theta)=A \sin \theta\] The amplitude is given by |A|.

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

so then it would always be positive since its the absolute value?
