The French Horn has ________ that change the length of the instrument. A. Valves B. Rotors C. Keys D. Skins

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm not sure. that is a tough one.

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

most brass instruments have valves that you press down to make the length of the instrument change therefore changing the pitch

OpenStudy (anonymous):

most brass instruments do but the correct answer was Rotors :/ It was hard for me to understand because no where in our lesson it says this.

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

what?! the only thing about rotors that I know about french horn was it's Rotary Valve which is still a valve *confused*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk it says that is the answer

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

there's nothing here about rotors... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_horn *sigh* @Donblue22 plays french horn

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm sorry, but thank you

OpenStudy (donblue22):

Just to clarify the answer really is Rotors

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

could you please explain why? I'd like to know too :P

OpenStudy (donblue22):

Most brass instruments have valves were you push down and the entire valve moves up and down. French Horn on the oher hand when you push the keys down it moves a rotary valve to change the air flow instead of pushing down a valve.

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

o-o so a rotary valve is not a valve, but a rotor... much english ok thanks don xD

OpenStudy (donblue22):

No problem
