I will medal!!! Graham is folding a piece of paper to make an origami figure. Each time he folds the paper, the thickness of the paper is doubled. The paper starts out flat, with a thickness of 3 millimeters. A. Write a list of six ordered pairs showing the output as the thickness of the paper when the input is the number of times it is folded. Explain how you came up with your ordered pairs. B. Is this relation a function? Explain why or why not using the ordered pairs you came up with in Part A.
I already have the answers for part A. it is (0.3), (1.6), (2.12), (3.24), (4.48) and (5.96). But i need help with the bottom, part B.
ok so first 0 folds = 3 mm thickness (0,3) x=folds y=thickness so (0.3) (1,6) (2,12) (3,24) (4,48) (5,96)
A function has 1 value of 'x'
The x-values here are 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Do you see any repeated numbers?
yes
What numbers are repeated?
none they go by 1ns
Yeah..there aren't any repeats of 'x', therefore it is a function.
thanks for the help iGreen!
