a lot had to do with religious freedom and to escape the poverty of medieval Europe. All of them sound valid. Disease ran rampant because of the sanitation issues, and criminals wanted to escape persecution. But for this question, haven't you ever heard the old saying "America is the land of opportunity" hint..hint...
