You will have to break the force up into components. So lets define the middle tension in the rope as T2. So the components will be T2x=T2cos(a) and T2y=T2sin(a) are the horizontal and vertical forces respectively. Since you know the weight of the object and its not accelerating you can calculate the tension. \[\sum_{}^{}F _{net} = 0\]
I dont fully understand that. I did it but could you solve it and show the answers so I know I did it correctly
Okay. I'm sure you read in your hand with this assignment that forces are vectors and they need to be broken down into components. |dw:1423772939375:dw|
|dw:1423773046844:dw| I have T2 and T1. Now we can make some assumptions. Since we are not given any information the little pulleys (the wheels) we can assume that T1 and T2 have the same tension force. Now since the system is not accelerating we can say net force equal 0. That is what I mention in the first post of that mathematical statement. From the diagram lets break the forces into horizontal and vertical components. As mention we know T1 and T2 are equation like in the diagram. We can substitute T1 into T2. T1 =50 N. Why? Because the block is not moving so its equal forces. vertical component \[T2_{y} = T2 \sin(\theta)\]Horizontal is \[T2_{x}=T2\cos(\theta)\]
