I need help creating a thesis statement. I will give a medal !! The prompt is : The debate about education rages all around us, and yet rarely are students given a voice in the debate. Consider the following questions : What do you think a high school education should look like? What should students be required to learn? How long should you be required to go to school? What should you need to demonstrate in order to graduate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You want me to write this out?

OpenStudy (mtwizzle420):

Yes please!

OpenStudy (mtwizzle420):

@Destinymasha could you maybe help me?:)

OpenStudy (destinymasha):

Hi A thesis statement (or just your thesis) is supposed to encompass the main idea of the text or passage. So squeezing the most important point that you would like to make and the focus of your essay - into one or two sentences ; would be your thesis.

OpenStudy (mtwizzle420):

Yes I know that :) I am just having a rough time wording it because there is four different questions in the prompt so im not sure what to include in my thesis. :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Basically answer all the questions in one sentence. So something like: A high school education (what you think it should be like), in which students are required to learn (what you think they should learn), attend school (how long they should attend), and demonstrate (what you think they should do) in order to graduate. Hope this helps! :)

OpenStudy (mtwizzle420):

Oh my gosh thank you so much! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem :)

OpenStudy (mtwizzle420):

Im having trouble with the first one.. @leahbernajane

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it's what you think a high school education should be in your opinion. This might help a bit: How would you recreate the high school curriculum?

OpenStudy (mtwizzle420):

This is what I have so far. A highscool education should be like....?, in which students are required to learn core classes (Math, Science, English, etc.), attend school for 6 months of the year, and demonstrate there knowledge with one test that is 100 questions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For where your question mark is: What should a high school education be like for the student? Engaging? Useful and apply to daily lives? Dictatorial? Otherwise, all you need to do is revise the last part to something like, "and demonstrate their knowledge with an exam that contains 100 questions covering core material in order to graduate."

OpenStudy (mtwizzle420):

I am also stuck on that one... :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, okay. Would you like me to suggest my opinion on the topic? Maybe it can help give you an idea of what to write. :)

OpenStudy (mtwizzle420):

Yes please:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe a high school education should revolve around the students' needs and the field they intend to major, that way, their years in high school can better prepare them for college and their future.

OpenStudy (mtwizzle420):

This is what I have :) A high school should be engaging and useful to the students life, in which students are required to learn core classes, attend school for 6 months of the year, and demonstrate there knowledge in order to graduate. Dooes that sound decent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, good job! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good luck with your essay! :) I just so happen to also be writing one for my English class. :P

OpenStudy (mtwizzle420):

Thank you so much!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem :)
