The first English colony in North America was Roanoke in 1587 off the coast of North Carolina. There were 117 men, women, and children. The Spanish-English War kept any ships from sailing there, and it was 1590 before the first supply ship could get there. The sailors found it abandoned. To this day historians do not know what happened to the "Lost Colonists."
