b. Plasmid

Individual bacteria do not become resistant to antibiotics. Populations of bacteria become resistant when individuals with mutation that confers antibiotics resistance are strongly favored by selection when a populations treated with antibiotics. This usually occurs when an antibiotic treatment ended prematurely , so not all of the bacteria is not kills off.
