How did the Tet Offensive affect perceptions of the Vietnam War within the United States? Americans showed no discernible change in their level of support. Americans were confident of a US military victory. Americans grew critical of the war because the Viet Cong were viewed as remaining strong. Americans were appalled at the brutality of the Viet Cong forces and wanted total victory.
