Why does sand heat up the air around it faster than water?? @Data_LG2 @SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (snowsurf):

Sand has a lower specific heat while water has a higher specific heat. A substance with lower specific heat takes a short time to heat up and less energy to change its temperature. Water on the other hand has a higher specific heat so it takes more time and energy to change its temperature.
