What exactly is torque??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Torque is a measure of how much a force acting from a distance on an object's pivot point causes it to rotate. If we apply a force on the pivot point then we will cause no rotation and thus no torque since the distance of the position where the force was applied will be 0.
