The Declaration of Independence was written to address the monarchical oppression by the British Government of the American Colonies. The issues that it helped were three things: the oppression of an overseas ruler (liberty), the taxation that was pressed upon the people, and the natural rights of Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of happiness that every man is entitled to.
