Is the Compaq Presario C700 a good laptop? I upgraded it to Windows 8.1 from Vista with iso how do i speed up!

Add memory.  The poor man's upgrade.  If you have a 64 bit system, 8GB +.

By today's standards, no it's not. You can grab a 8GB 64BIT laptop these days for around 400-500 dollars, maybe even cheaper.

This laptop has a dual core that operates at only 1.6GHz, which  isn't very fast, and only 1GB of Ram according to the engadget specs I'm looking at,

I guess you could install ram sticks if it isn't too much of a hassle with your model, which would improve speed.

Already did this. I do not have 300 dollars laying around though!
I am fine with this laptop it is faster than the new 2014 windows 8.1 laptop that is like 6 months old so thats good. I just wondered if there was a way to make it mega fast!

You could try installing an SSD if it's not too much of a hassle with your laptop's model. Will GREATLY improve performance.
