The league of nations was an intergovermental organisation that was founded in the 1920's.

Its main mission was to maintain world peace including prevent wars,helping with international disputes.

After they failed to maintain the "world peace" they were attempting to (with WWII) they couldn't stop the war.
 After the world war the organisation was replaced by the United Nations.

I would agree very much that they were an earlier model that the UN got based off of so yes.
