Chord EF intersects chord wy at point g. Find the length of gy. If necessary, round to the nearest tenth. https://media.education2020.com/evresources/2092497_78fe8139-3271-400d-a9ed-9b460cda0562.png

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well if you know that wy=ef then you have to set up an equation to find x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

14+16=10+x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that make sense how I got that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not really, I don't really understand how to do these problems.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=10 That's for sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But that's not an answer?

|dw:1423846564465:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so x=20

syed98 (syedmohammed98):

Yupp

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're a badass, thank you! I don't know how you got that equation though.. why are we using the other measurements? And how do I know what order to put them in the equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait, was I wrong? I'm confused...

syed98 (syedmohammed98):

lol..Your'e welcome

syed98 (syedmohammed98):

nah u were right too :)

syed98 (syedmohammed98):

well about the equation ..... when two things are equal it is written as x = x so 'EF' IS 30 there must be a number with WG which make both the lines equal

OpenStudy (radar):

You were a little hasty. Nowhere in the problem did it state that chord EF equals chord WY. Your must use the rule of "intersecting chords" See http://www.mathopenref.com/chordsintersecting.html. Using that theorem you would get the equation: 10x=(16)*(14) 10x = 224 x=22.4 that is already to the nearest tenth as required by the problem @courtneyt
