OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

So along with giving medals for best answers, I wish we could "like" comments. Such as when you think someone's comment is cool/funny you can like it or when one specific thing someone said really helped you you can like it. But unlike medals that can earn titles, likes wouldn't do anything except make a person feel proud that someone liked what they said.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

I can understand how there could be problems with this but tell me what you think!

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

oh and you would be able to like multiple posts in one thread, unlike medals. But only one like per post, like medals

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

People will feel bad with a comment like that. @Route66LosAngeles

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

@horsegirl27 The idea has been suggested before and it would be a nice feature. I like how you suggested that likes wouldn't affect the SS of a user in any way.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Thanks @confluxepic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@confluxepic sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I love this idea!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

& that's a terrible comment. @Route66LosAngeles

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

I love love love this idea!

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Thanks everyone:) Let's get lots of people to support it so it actually happens! Tag your friends :P

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Put it in the suggestion box @horsegirl27 https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1gbJyuidaelKd6L9uwX68yWGdF5sSUKGGPSIW1EFH7To/viewform

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

ok

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Thx I did

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I like this idea too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wish i could LIKE this question/post! i wish that was possible too

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

lol thx guys! Keep helping support it! I put it in the suggestion box ^_^

pooja195 (pooja195):

This a great idea :)

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@sammixboo @satellite73 @Nnesha @undeadknight26 @~*Ashtyn*~ @ispike @iGreen. @butterflydreamer @blurbendy

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

I hope I don't sound offending...but OS is a study site and "liking" a comment reminds me too of social media...Anyways, I also like the suggestion, but I just wanted to put my thought out there. :')

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

I understand what you mean. I agree, there are certain problems that could come along with it. But, every feature has possible problems. And that's why we have mods. And about this being a study site @EclipsedStar, By "liking" a certain comment/post, you are showing that that specific answer helped you overall. Or if on OS feedback someone has cool LaTeX, you can "like" it. Or as @kcassidy said, you could "like" an idea someone posted, to help support it.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

So, @horsegirl27 , you're basically saying the "like" feature is fulfilling the same purpose of giving a medal right? "By "liking" a certain comment/post, you are showing that that specific answer helped you overall." is what a medal is supposed to do, right?

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Lol now my posts seems like I'm trying to argue...sorry XD

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

It's ok

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

But no, medals are to reward a person and earn titles. "Likes" are basically for if you just like a specific post in a thread. And they won't earn anything. And you will be able to give multiple likes per thread (but you can't give a million likes to one comment).

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Oh okay, I c. :D

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

it is a good alternate to "medaling" several people without actuallly affecting their SS but still making their explanations seem valuable

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Thanks ^_^

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

i like this idea very much! :))

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Good!:)

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

I really like this idea. I feel like the medal is for the best overall answer. If we had the "like" option, we could still be able to tell other users that they helped you also. I also like how the "like" wouldn't affect our SS.

OpenStudy (inowalst):

I'm 50/50 on this because if you or someone else thought someone's comment was "cool/funny" and it was just plain inappropriate, I dont see how that comment should get a 'like.'

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Well @inowalst, maybe a mod could be there to control it, and if a comment is in any way breaking the CoC then it couldn't get a like. Also, when you medal, if you wanted to then you could give an inappropriate answer a medal. So the "likes" are kind of like a medal but they have no reward and they are for a specific answer/comment rather than the overall response so it wouldn't be too important. Also, if someone decides they want to give an inappropriate answer a like, than that is just stupid, but their decision. It won't affect the person's SS so in the end, it won't matter. But I'm sure there could be ways that a mod could control the likes.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@k_lynn you just perfectly described what I was thinking!

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@EclipsedStar read what @k_lynn said. That's what I had been trying to say a few days ago

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Tagged everyone but @Preetha @e.mccormick @Abhisar @thomaster @TheSmartOne @shrutipande9 Mod's need to be tagged to gain recognition. :)

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

ok thx

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

I just tagged a few of my friends up there. Probably is smart to tag a mod if I want people to know lol I should have thought about that :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:) No problem.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

:)

pooja195 (pooja195):

tso and preeth are not mods preetha is an admie and tso is just tso

pooja195 (pooja195):

admin preetha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Most suggestions don't get recognition so be prepared for denial, it might not happen, but the odds of it going threw are slime.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Thanks for telling me @Poke~Master314 though I do hope it's at least considered

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

I'm trying to get a majority of OS to like this idea(lol get it) so then the mods would see how it could be a very good addition. Also I'm trying to work it all out like the parts where you could like an inappropriate answer or how you can maybe glitch the system and do something like give out a bunch of likes and how many likes you can give. So everyone reading this try to tag one or two of your friends over here so more can see this idea. You don't have to of course

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@pooja195 I forgot @Joel_the_boss XD @TheSmartOne Is a mod but undercover and so is @Joel_the_boss

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

lol undercover

OpenStudy (inowalst):

Yes but there aren't 100+ mods. Having to moderate every post.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@Poke~Master314 LOL. We actually have a place off of OpenStudy where all the mods are. People are very wrong abut the idea of undercover anything here. It is just that many mods have alts.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

That's cool. Now, any other ideas about liking a post?

Nnesha (nnesha):

lol @pooja195 tso is just tso lol @TheSmartOne

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

haha

OpenStudy (igreen):

I am a moderator too. But you just can't see it with your mortal eyes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am also a bit iffy on the likes. I feel they would distract on the idea of getting help, but the idea of getting a thank you for helping would be motivational. I am utterly torn.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Yeah, I see what you mean.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

It's hard to decide. Are they a good thing because they would make someone happy and they are motivational? They would make it easier for deciding who gets a medal. Medal goes to person who gave overall help, likes to an answer someone else gave that helped. Or are they bad because they make it too much like a social media site? Well, any feature has some possible problems. I personally feel that overall, the idea of having likes would be a nice thing to have on OS.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

But everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if they love or hate the idea, it doesn't matter.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@iGreen since you are a mod, could you tell me what u think? Do u think this would be a feature that would be considered by the OS team?

OpenStudy (igreen):

Lol, I was jk about me being a Moderator :P I like this idea, and I thought of it before..I hope it passes :)

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

oh ok lol

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

And thx :)

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

I really don't want to kill the mood...but Thomaster rejected it :(

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Yours is number 165. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aipa7vnafVHHdF9ieTBXMXRYZW9ZdE9CUExtdUpHeEE#gid=0 :'(

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Maybe you could send the suggestion again, and paraphrase it? :)

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Possibly.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

lol he said it ain't facebook haha

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

idc. I will reword it to make it sound better :)

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

I resubmitted my idea, listing more ideas, and more reasons it would be good

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I love this idea!

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@thomaster what do you think of this idea?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

The CEO chat is on the 26th at 6 pm PT, so you could ask more directly about this at that time.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

ok

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@CREEPYMLPMASTER

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Urgh, well, we had a Lag Festival rather than a CEO chat... so... oops.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

haha

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Mine keeps lagging sooo much today!!

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

The CEO chat was basically, say hi, Jay posts a huge latex thing which made Eric (along with many others) unable to do anything, Preetha announced ambis, everybody congratulated new ambis, everyone left :P

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

lol :P

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

I tried it didn't work for me :/

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Lol Jess. True dat. xD

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

44031 characters worth of \(\LaTeX\)... that is 47kB (as a text file) on a system that is designed to work on like 5kB...

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

It would definitely kill the system...lolz ^

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

haha totally

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, it added a ton of lag at a time people were gaving massive lag already and the login server was not playing nice. So if it stressed them to where they needed to relog, they could not.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Yeah it was just loading the whole time I tried after 10 minutes I gave up, checked back, still not working

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

True. Jay, the one that posted it in the first place, got logged out himself xD

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Jay killed his own account with it

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

haha wow fail
