how would I write an equation of a horizontal line passing through the point (2, 8)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the equation for a horizontal line looks like \(y=number\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the number in this case?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

these are good to remember.. HOY -- horizontal line, 0 slope, represented by y = a number VUX -- vertical line, undefined slope, represented by x = a number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

awesome thanks! so the answer is just y=8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YES

OpenStudy (anonymous):

K thank you guys very much!

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

yes..although I guess you could write it like this... y = 0x + 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would either way be right?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I think so....I, myself, would probably just write y = 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k awesome thank you!

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

unless you need it in standard form
