Is posting a link to an external source a "direct answer"? I really want to know what a "direct answer" specifies as people have been calling me out on such things and not exactly telling me why. I understand that even "guessing" may cause the asker to "steal" the answer without learning, but are there any other ways to "not help the asker"?
Direct answers is basically like those kids in school who always shout out the answer instead of raising their hands and explaining their answers, and then all the children get irritated by the student who yells out everything.
XDXDXD
I see... but can I have some examples? Mods and other users sometimes get annoyed at me for such things, yet often times I don't see where I went wrong
I mean, may* I have examples xD
what do you learn when you give direct answers @kittiwitti1
I have posted a question similar to this @kittiwitti1 , and I have been told that a link giving a direct answer without a thorough explanation is still against the CoC.
That's not what I meant @jagr2713, and yes, thank you @EclipsedStar
I mean that I need examples of "giving a direct answer" so I can avoid them and save the mods/users much wasted time later ^^;
Well, let's say multiple choice.
A person types in: "A, because it makes sense"
ok lets say multiple choice question has all four of the choices and you just say the answer is B thats a direct answer
That's a direct answer.
Lol, you both said the same thing at the same time xD I know this but oftentimes I get called out for something I don't think is giving a direct answer at all o-o
Can you give a link where you've been told that?
or in the math section someone gives an equation to solve and you comment x=14. Thats considered a direct answer. Any answer without an explanation or a resource or something to back it up is a direct answer.
Oh... okay.
as long as the link does not give a direct answer, it should be fine
yea like yahoo answers or something like that
@EclipsedStar Here: http://openstudy.com/users/kittiwitti1#/updates/54dc9ba4e4b07f4a24be65ef (Thank you @sleepyhead314)
The original link is in that question because Joel thinks I am mad at him xD I understand I was in the wrong, but I didn't understand why, is all
Well.... http://openstudy.com/users/kittiwitti1#/updates/54dc79c1e4b0ffc24cc54ce8
That is considered a direct answer because you said " I think it's Pearl Harbor"
Okay.
oh yea i forgot i warned you about that
You didn't give an explanation why you thought so. :)
I meant to instigate a discussion but failed to notice that the asker was offline is all
like that, thats considered a direct answer
^
So is there a different way to go about starting a discussion?
Always come with an explanation, or guide the asker...
Or provide a link that explains the answer in detail. :)
Does saying "What do you think?" work?
I feel like that's too snobbish and arrogant when I say it ^^;
Yes, many people do so. :)
the explanation can be a link but it cant just say in the link*the answer is B* it has to go deep into the question explain everything about the question.
yes it works and I personally do not like the method :P
Well....many people also ask "what do you think" and just leave.....XD
@jagr2713 that would be a very hilariously stupid link if that happened xD
*can't decide who to give a medal to* ; o;
batman
if you say *what do you think* wait for the person to respond and if they give the correct answer congratulate them or if its incorrect then explain why its incorrect or give a link or something and help them from there.
Whhyyy ; o; He's (?) already level 99
ok thank you @jagr2713
If in doubt who to give a medal to, don't give a medal at all~
give it to batman :)
Lol ;')
I want to help someone get to level 99 though ; o;
batman's already 99ss ;-;
Exactly T_T
I'll give one to @jagr2713 :) Since he has the lowest SS xD
one medal wont make a diffrence lol
^
Meh ; o;
@kittiwitti1 i mean you can medal anyone here, its not like its a difference maker or the end of the road lol
Ok ; o; I gave you one anyway >_>
It's a good question that you make Kitti :)
Thank you :)
i thank you for that, but it wont make a difference who gets it b.c at the end of the day we are still the same people and still helpers :D
I meant "asked" not make XD
It's fine I get it xD
Good :D
But Joel thinks I'm mad at him ^^; Apparently when I type things it can get the wrong meaning across ; o;
@Joel_the_boss what do you think? :P :P :P
thats his opinion @kittiwitti1 as long you are not mad or what ever he says then it shouldn't be a big deal
OMG I'm going to get yelled at o_o;
Staarrrr ; o;
....Which brings up my thought from a few days ago. There should be a mock tutorial on how to help on a question when a user first uses os. :/
Like a pop-up video explaining how to help others.
Oh yea- that would be really helpful ; o;
and thank you @jagr2713 I feel so much better ; o; xD
Anytime
@kittiwitti1 this should you explain http://openstudy.com/users/iambatman#/updates/54a75883e4b054f0c3b82adf
?
Ohhh thank you @jagr2713
Yep :D
Ok I think I got it, thank you @jagr2713 ^-^
yep just read that :D Its a great explanation
I wasn't made :D I was just showing you right from wrong. Im sorry if I got you mad. :P
