Solve y=|x|-100

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help, I've been trying to solve this 2 hours and I don't understand how to find the steps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve for what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i need to find the x intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

make a guess, i bet you are right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what two numbers would you put in for \(x\) to make \(|x|=100\)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-100, 100?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good guess!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that's the answer? like there's no formal steps to follow like with other problems

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am not sure what you mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you want \[|x|-100=0\\ |x|=100\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you remove the absolute value signs you get \[x=100,x=-100\] there are no "steps"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you i was over thinking it i thought it couldn't be that simple
