Ik this has been requested before, but I love for it to be requested AGAIN. Being an Ambassador, you are supposed to welcome new users, correct? Well, what about we can get a notification saying "NewUser747 has just joined OpenStudy!" so we can contact the user, Welcoming them, and showing them how to use the site. This would be helpful for us Ambassadors.
That's a great idea. :O
great suggestion. But annoying to say every second, "NewUser747 has just joined OpenStudy!" "NewUser747 has just joined OpenStudy!" "NewUser747 has just joined OpenStudy!"
...but I think that only ambis should get the notification...
...because as @jagr2713 said, it will annoy some people.
Yes, Ambassadors only is what I meant =3
Also...how about if an ambi is offline? Will they still get the notifs?
No, because it'll just back up and stuff
they will come the next day to 3000 notifications. i came today with 56 notifications
But a user doesn't sign up withen 2 seconds of another user, so it wouldn't be such an overload of notifications
Not always at least LOL
yeah this would help ambi's like me :p
Laughing ;P
lol @acxbox22
there's already a so and so asked their first question in the chats thing
True, BUUUUT I don't look at the chats the whole time I am on
Not sure about you, but ;p
True...but in my opinion people ignore that @jigglypuff314
@jigglypuff314 tbh i find ithat feature kinda annoying c
exactly @EclipsedStar
And you would be able to turn it off or on
well, if you're looking for people to welcome, then you look at it if you aren't interested in the new people, then just keep ignoring it xD
you know a major problem on OS is that most newcomers leave after the first 3 minutes of their first question because of being ignored this slows the growth of OS itself
I personally think it might be more bothersome to have such a notification, because many alt accounts are made daily (sometimes because someone forgets their passward/email and other times because of evading suspension)
for me i go to every subject and scroll down and see who is new and welcome them. Like go to math or other subjects ull see me say welcome in some of them
Yes, and it's possible that the "new" users already know all about os and how it works.
I noticed that @jagr2713 . Almost every single new user is welcomed by him. XD
lol i have no life.... D: lol
The thing about welcomes though is that we also should help them it's always awkward when trying to welcome someone but not actually being able to help with their question... http://openstudy.com/users/e.mccormick#/updates/52890468e4b0c6de5ca60cdb
i always do that i welcome them but not answer their question lol
Instead of welcoming the user upon signup, lets get notifications for only three sections upon First Question. Feedback, Math and English. This will go on until the other sections pickup.
Help first, welcome later =3 It'll make them feel more welcomed and not ignored. Ayways, back to the topic
i do that to @Compassionate
Or we can have a toggle switch and choose which sections we want to be notified for. For example, I'm a great Health Student and could help new users upon First Question in Health Sciences but not so much in Chemistry. So, we try to spread Ambassadors out over an equal playing field so every section has 1 or 2 Ambassadors that can greet users.
*if we had that many active ambassadors to spread out like that*
Ya'll need Jesus. Ambassadors need to pickup the load. I've been disappointed lately in their overall activity. I can name 4 Ambassadors that are very active, and two of them are in this thread, and one of them is me.
*two* *goes into corner and cries* I'm not active? ;-;
i like this idea no i love this idea :)
You and Sammix are very active. And one of the other four is me. The other one being Yana. Now, I've always stressed BostonBlue's idea of assigned section and stand firmly behind this. Spreading the welcoming committee over an equal playing field helps. Look at all the unanswered new questions in our dead subjects. A better system needs to be implemented. Just not notifications - because EVERY AMBASSADOR will get flooded and it will cause confusion and havoc. Assigned Notifications to Assigned Ambassadors in their respective topics is simply logical. An Ambie getting a notification for Mathematics when he's dyslexic doesn't make sense; a health major being notified in English would just be combersome.
@Compassionate i am one of the 4 right
Are you an ambi yet @jagr2713 ? o.O
joke. LOL
Sorry I take things too seriously.....XD
lol
ok so we have Idea: Get notifications for when new user signs up to OpenStudy Problem: Getting notification spammed Idea 2: Getting notifications for First Questions in Specific Topics
Hmm....so to not let the notifications area get spammed, how about a separate tab exclusively for the "new user" notifs?
I do that, but every user I click immediately shows offline right when I click them. It's weird.
yea me to
Maybe a glitch? Sometimes it says \(I'm\) offline. :/
THat is something else, but this happens only with new users. Right when I click their username to go send them a message, it says they are online, but then suddenly turns offline right after their pop-up preview profile pops up. Happens with 4-5 users in a row every time I do it
Do those particular users already have an ss of at least 3? :/
Maybe a ss of 0 affect something...?
0-15 usually
