What is velocity? I need a clear definition of this word so that I can understand what it is. Any examples or problems to help my understanding would be great.

pooja195 (pooja195):

That means speed

pooja195 (pooja195):

And I also think it can be only positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pooja195 is a bit mistaken. Velocity is magnitude and direction of speed meaning that velocity can be negative. For instance let's consider up to be the positive direction. If you throw a ball down towards the ground it will have a negative velocity because of the direction.

Mhmm. So, can you give me an example where I can use the formula for the average velocity?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Average velocity is defined as displacement over time. So if a problem were to give you displacement and time that would be an average velocity problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hm. Okay, thanks for the help and explanation! :)

No Problem :D
