OpenStudy (michellemn):

A number was added to each value in an original data set to give a new data set with values 14, 2, 13, 4, and 2. What number was added to each value if the original mean was 6? 1 4 7 8

OpenStudy (abmon98):

Mean=Sum of number/count 6=Sum of Number/5 Sum of Number=30 The sum of numbers in the new data set is 14+2+13+4+2=35, the sum of the data set which consists of 5 number is 35. the sum of original data set is 30. so the 5 values in the data set are increased by 1

OpenStudy (michellemn):

so 7? @Abmon98

OpenStudy (abmon98):

nope +1

OpenStudy (michellemn):

8?

OpenStudy (abmon98):

the mean of the new set of values is 7--->35/5=7 the mean of the original data set of value is 6 and the number of value is 5. use the equation mean=Sum of value/Number of values present in the data set 6=Sum of values/5 Sum of values=6*5=30 Now compare 30 with the sum of new values which is 35. the sum of new values is +5 greater that the original. the increase in all the values is +5. so for just one value from the data set the increase is +1
