Help! How would I factor this trinomial? X^2-8x+12?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x-2)(x-6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh crap sorry i forgot not to give direct answers..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you explain to me how I would do it?

Nnesha (nnesha):

there r different methods to factor this quadratic equation u can use quadratic formula or headphone method :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

step 1: Solve quadratic equation x2−8x+12=0 by using step-by-step quadratic equation solver (opens new window). The solutions are: x1=2 x2=6 step2: Use formula for factoring quadratic equation:

How would I factor it using the quadratic formula

Nnesha (nnesha):

headphone method is when leading coefficient is one u need to find two number if you multiply them you should get 12 and if you add or subtract them you should get -8

There is also the x method in which you would put the last number on top of an X and put the middle number on the bottom. To find the right answer you have to find 2 #s that multiply to get the top number and add to get the bottom number.
