During a golf game, the ball is hit forward with 500 N of force using a golf club. According to Newton's Third Law of Motion, what is the force of the golf ball on the club? A. The golf club exerted an attractive force of 500 N on the golf ball, so the golf ball exerted a repulsive force of 500 N on the golf club. B. To determine the force on the golf ball, the force of 500 N by the golf club must be multiplied by gravity to get 4900 N. C. The golf club exerted a forward force of 500 N on the golf ball. This activated a 500 N force of inertia from the golf ball to the golf club. D. The golf club exerted a forward force of 500 N on the golf ball, so the golf ball exerted a backward force of 500 N on the golf club. @SinginDaCalc2Blues

Do you remember the 3rd law?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if you kick a wall with your bare toe, does it only hurt the wall?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, it hurts your toe, too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So according to the 3rd law of motion, can you tell me why the wall also hurts your toe?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Answer me like a scientist would! Impress me! :o)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The wall would also hurt your toe, because if you exert a force on the wall, the wall will exert a force onto you, as well.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Bravo Blossom! Beautifully put! Excellent miss scientist! High five! :o)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yay! \[\huge \ddot \smile\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if you hit the golf ball with 500 N of force with the club, how many newtons of force does the golf ball hit the club with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Probably less than 500 N ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

think about it...EQUAL AND OPPOSITE REACTION

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you hit the golf ball with 500 N of force with the club, then the golf ball will also hit the club with 500 N of force.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YES!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\huge \dddot \smile\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Technically it is -500 N because it is opposite...the opposite of positive is negative, but if they are only asking for magnitude, then 500 N is fine!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay...you are getting it now...use your formulas, understand and trust them, most importantly use your intuition, and you will do fine...good luck! :o)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, the correct answer would be D. Right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes...backwards implies opposite...so yes, D!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see a bunch of diamonds with question marks inside them. What were you typing there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmmm... They were supposed to be arrows pointing upwards. I guess I just didn't see your message.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay...thanks for the medals...I finally hit 60! lol...take care and good luck! :o)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're welcome! Same goes for you! :D
