organic chem is the chemistry of organic (carbon containing) compounds.

it's chemistry containing carbon and hydrogen atoms. Be careful because some carbon containing molecules are not organic (for example CO2, diamond, graphite, things like this).

I'm learning organic chem right now and it's basically just memorizing the trends, learning how to manipulate the trends, and learning how to build complex molecules. I'll attach the file of an example of how a student in organic chemistry might learn (it's actually a past test from my school so I'm doing exactly these things...)

you generally learn basic chemistry in high school and BARELY touch organic chemistry in AP Chem (i remember my teacher spent 2 days on it and that's it).

I'm taking a 2-course organic chemistry series in college now, and I'm currently a sophomore. But in college you have more options of when you want to take the class. I can delay ochem classes for later and take something else that still satisfies my major (chemical biology if you're interested).

Recap: no you don't learn it in high school. The earliest time that you can learn ochem, at least at Cal and most other colleges that my friends go to, is your second year.
