What is the middle number when the numbers {2.3, –0.1, 1.9, –4, –3.2} are ordered from least to greatest?

OpenStudy (adamk):

First order them least to greatest.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i need this fast my school ends in 5m

OpenStudy (adamk):

List the bigger negative numbers first. So, {-4, -3.2, -0.1, etc.} You do the rest.

OpenStudy (adamk):

Then start crossing out numbers from both sides of the list at the same time until you are left with one number in the middle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-4,-3.2,-2.3,1.9,-0.1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There's no -2.3 and -0.1 is in wrong place.

OpenStudy (adamk):

No. Remember negative numbers are always before positive numbers on the number line.

OpenStudy (adamk):

-2.3 is in the right place. Please do not confuse the person.

OpenStudy (adamk):

Except it is not -2.3. It's 2.3. So we have {-4, -3.2, -0.1, 1.9, 2.3}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, that's what I said...

OpenStudy (adamk):

So what's the number in the middle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And still -0.1 IS in wrong place.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-0.1

OpenStudy (adamk):

Yep!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):
