How do I find the area of this triangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't just multiply 5.5 x 9.9..right..?

OpenStudy (ilovewolf):

Yep and what would that give you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

54.45

OpenStudy (ilovewolf):

5.5 x 9.9= 54.45 and then since it's a triangle you're suppose to divide after so.... 54.45/2=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are..? 27.225.. <-------- so it's actually this?

OpenStudy (ilovewolf):

yep Are there answer choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What about this..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(yes and it's also on c: )

OpenStudy (ilovewolf):

Okay good! and what is 7 x 15?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

105

OpenStudy (ilovewolf):

Okay since this isnt a triangle the number that you got by multiplying will be your answer c:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks!

OpenStudy (ilovewolf):

You're Welcome c: Anytime

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if I tried to find the area of a trapezoid.. would I just multiply?

OpenStudy (ilovewolf):

Yep!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But it multiplied to an answer that isn't a choice..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (ilovewolf):

Oh Okay...are the choices? for the second one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

38.5, 50.75, 63, 101.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (ilovewolf):

3.5 x 11= 38.5 So the answer choice for that one would be A.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

...what about the 18?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when i multiplied 18 x 3.5 I got 63 so I'm confused...

OpenStudy (ilovewolf):

18? Nope bc area is l x w (length x width) and 3.5 is the length and 11 is the width so you multiply that and forget about the 18 : )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhh okay

OpenStudy (ilovewolf):

Yup http://assets.openstudy.com/updates/attachments/54e3d3c3e4b00ad827d670a5-samsteronbroadway-1424217312824-capture.png okay and what are the choices for this one:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought we did that one.. 105..

OpenStudy (ilovewolf):

Oh okay.... I thought that was the one you got confused.... sorry :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's okay! I'm going to tag you in another question okay?

OpenStudy (ilovewolf):

Okay!
