OpenStudy (j.f):

The number 120 is separated into two parts. The larger part exceeds three times the smaller by 12. What is the smaller? I had 93+27= 120, 27x3= 81, 81+12= 93. Is this correct, 27?

Directrix (directrix):

Let x be the larger part. Then, 120 - x is the smaller part x = 3*(120 - x) + 12 Solve for x @J.F

OpenStudy (j.f):

so 93?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Your answer of 27 looks correct.

OpenStudy (j.f):

That's what I thought. Thanks
